Deposits made by companies and population soar to RON 181 bln
The bank deposits of companies and population soared by 1.7 pc in September against August, and by 6.6 pc against September 2010, to RON 181 bln, driven by savings in the national currency, according to data released yesterday by the National Bank of Romania (BNR), reads a press release.
Population’s deposits in foreign currency, expressed in RON equivalent, increased in September by 4.5 pc against the same month of 2010 (up 2.4 pc in EUR), to RON 41 bln, while those made by legal entities dropped by 15.6 pc (-17.3 pc in EUR), to RON 20.4 bln. The balance of foreign currency loans reached RON 140.7 bln at the end of September, accounting for an increase by 3.8 pc against August and by 8.3 pc against the same interval of last year.
Expressed in EUR, loans in foreign currency was 0.7 pc higher than in August. The population borrowed the equivalent of RON 68.7 bln in foreign currency, 2.8 pc more than the previous month, and 5.2 pc higher than a year ago. In their turn, companies accessed 4.8 pc more loans than in August and 11.3 pc more than in September 2010, i.e. RON 71.9 bln.
